There’s a new trend on TikTok, and it’s mostly confusing everyone on the app. The trend features the song “Little Life” by UK artist Cordelia O’Driscoll, and it’s seriously taken over my For You page. This viral “I think I like this little life” trend, of which there are over 280,000 videos on TikTok, has recently been facing some backlash despite its heartwarming start.
Originally, the “I think I like this little life” trend started as a song for users to compile montages of their happy memories with their friends, significant others, and other loved ones. This was a way for people to celebrate the little things in life and celebrate the joy in every day. Unfortunately, it turned into a trend that sparked discourse and debates after blowing up.
After going viral, the song started to be taken over by celebrities, influencers, and other wealthy TikTok users. Those users started using the song to show off their extravagant travels, excessive belongings, and other lavish parts of their lives. In turn, the wholesome trend became a bigger discussion on how not everyone is graced with the same opportunities — some users have gone as far as to call out celebrities who have used the sound at all.Â
Despite the discourse, lots of TikTok users then took the trend to a new level. Instead of using the song to show the beautiful little moments in their lives, people are taking a less serious side of the discussion by parodying the song, trying to show that a TikTok trend isn’t the most serious thing going on at the moment. These parodies include singing the song really loud to scare someone in the room with you, or just singing it in general to someone who has no idea about the trend and getting the other person’s reaction. TikTokers like Alix Earle and Carlo and Sarah were some content creators to take on this version of the trend, which, IMHO, is much more fun.
Regardless of how the trend got to where it is now, I have to say, these awkward singing versions of the “I think I like this little life” trend are the winners in my eyes.
