If you’ve been on TikTok in 2023, then you’ve probably come across the hilarious user, @octopusslover8. The 23-year-old content creator, real name Jake Shane, is one of the most recent TikTok comedians to come to stardom through the addictive app, and for good reason.
Shane began his account as a platform for his octopus/lunch ratings, and while fans are eager to hear his sushi opinions, his viewership skyrocketed after Shane started posting reenactments of historical milestones with a funny Gen Z twist. In fact, he has accumulated so much attention from his funny videos that he recently signed for representation with WME… and had his videos stitched by a few famous celebs
But first, some background: As I mentioned before, Shane is renowned for his unique improv videos. In these TikToks, Shane replies to various comments from his followers and acts out random scenes, adding a hilarious modern flare.
On March 27, Shane posted a TikTok playing Diet Coke reacting to the launch of Coke Zero. (As you can imagine, it was dramatic. As it should be.) While the video amassed 1.6 million views all on its own, some celebrities joined in on the video — launching this TikTok from a silly skit to all-out lore.
Nick Jonas creatively dueted this video by stepping in as Coke on the other end of the phone call, matching Shane’s dramatic flair perfectly. Both Kevin and Joe Jonas joined in on the fun, turning the Coca-Cola tease into an entire production. Kevin roleplayed Cherry Coke and went on a whole Freudian spiel about Cherry and Diet Coke’s neglected feelings (We always knew Kevin was the sensitive brother.)
Joe Jonas added the final touch to the act by playing Scott Anthony, Coca-Cola’s executive vice president. Coca-Cola amped up the comedy by commenting, “Welp, there goes that NDA.”
Lea Michelle quite literally joined the chat by dueting a video from March 20 and acting as Sprite on the other end of a juicy phone call. She comedically said, “can she even read?” and viewers were all for it. It seems like Shane might have found his niche with carbonated-themed comedy.
Needless to say, I’m invested in this TikTok soda drama. Who’s going to join in next? One can only hope Frankie, the Bonus Jonas, shoes up as Dr. Pepper, or Cherry-Vanilla Coke.
