Lady Gaga’s Controversial New Song “Princess Die”

Lady Gaga has never been one to conform–after, all she showed up to the 2011 Grammy Awards in an egg. But in 2012, is she above the laws of etiquette?

As part of the Born This Way Ball tour in Melbourne, Australia last night, the “You and I” singer premiered her piano ballad “Princess Die”–a suicidal song that is sure to ruffle the feathers of the family, friends, and supporters of the late Princess Diana.

The lyrics insinuate that Princess Diana’s death was ideal, with Gaga singing, “I wish that I could go in my rich boyfriend’s limo/ Right after he proposed with a 16-carat stone wrapped in rose gold/ With the paparazzi all swarming around…So bob your head for another dead blonde.”

“This song is a little bit sad,” the Fame Monster confessed to her fans. “But it’s about some of the most deep and personal thoughts I’ve ever had.

And perhaps the most insensitive?

While this song will undoubtedly spark controversy, it will also have what is always Gaga’s intended effect: getting our attention.

Has Gaga gone too far? Let us know what you think, collegiettes!
