The JoJo Siwa & Avery Cyrus Breakup Drama, Explained

JoJo Siwa and Avery Cyrus are over. ICYMI: The Dance Moms star and LGBTQ+ activist (with no relation to Miley Cyrus) officially ended things on Dec. 17 when Cyrus posted a TikTok with Siwa holding out a toy to her and saying, “This is my ‘Sorry for Breaking Up With You’ present.”

After three months of leading a super public dating life, fans were totally shocked. In the comments of Cyrus’ video, some people asked why they split while others said it was no surprise to hear their quick-turn relationship flamed out. Cyrus responded to one fan who asked why the relationship ended under the video and wrote, “We decided that we are better off as friends! We are both so young and still just trying to figure our stuff out!”

But, then, just two days after Cyrus said she and Siwa parted on good terms — some new information came to light. And, oh boy, it’s wild.

Let’s start from the beginning.

Monday Jessalynn Siwa, JoJo’s infamous mother, posted a video of her daughter on her Instagram story. In the video, JoJo paces back and forth shouting about what most people think is her recently-ended relationship with Cyrus.

“I got used!” Siwa explained. “For views and for clout, and I got tricked into being told that I was loved, and I got f*cking played!” That pretty much confirmed that Siwa was talking about Cyrus, for most fans.

Fans speculate that a TikTok posted by Cyrus and her ex-girlfriend, Sophia Mosca is what set the singer off. Cyrus announced her Mosca would be going on a trip to Europe together the day after she and Siwa publicly broke up. Yikes.

Cyrus told PEOPLE on Dec. 20, “From my perspective, me and JoJo left on great terms and are still friends. The relationship was very real and I have nothing but love for JoJo and her family,” adding, “I’m still very hurt that JoJo broke up with me and am saddened and confused by the situation.”

To make it messier, it seems like Siwa is doubling down on what she said in her mom’s Instagram Story in a recent TikTok. Siwa claims that Cyrus told one of her best friends that she was “excited to be dating (Siwa) because she’s growing her career and wants to get to the top.”

And when I said I just wanted to be friends so I didn’t lead you on after an unplanned hookup you wanted nothing to do with me because there was nothing to gain anymore.

Maybe, after the Chuck E. Cheese date, maybe we all should’ve seen where this was going. It seems like even Cyrus isn’t too sure where she stands with Siwa, but Siwa certainly isn’t happy with the way things went.

Grab some popcorn, besties, something tells me we’re about to get as much PBD (post-break-up-drama) as we did PDA from the duo.
