Could The Lone Ranger star be hanging up his hat–for good? Say it isn’t so, Johnny!
Earlier in the summer in an interview with Rolling Stone, Johnny Depp alluded to the idea that his acting wasn’t something he wanted to pursue forever. Said the 50-year-old actor, he’d eventually like to “just take it down to the bare minimum and concentrate on…living life.”
However, Johnny told BBC in an interview today that The Lone Ranger might just be one of his last films. “I wouldn’t say that I’m dropping out any second,” he clarified, “but I would say it’s probably not too far away.”
This revelation came from the increasing feeling that his chosen profession contained a great irony. As Johnny explained, “At a certain point, you start thinking, and when you add up the amount of dialogue that you say per year, for example, and you realize that you’ve said written words more than you’ve actually had a chance to say your own words, you start thinking of that as a kind of insane option for a human being.”
Luckily, Johnny won’t be going anywhere just yet. He’s already signed on to a big-screen adaptation of the Broadway musical Into the Woods, where he’ll play the big bad Wolf. He’s also been rumored to be revisiting his role of the Mad Hatter for an Alice in Wonderland sequel, as well as his role of Jack Sparrow for a fifth installment in the Pirates of the Caribbean saga.
His days may be numbered, but at least we have the comfort of knowing Hollywood’s wackiest and most iconic star will be around for a little while longer.
