On May 2nd, 2022, Harry Styles' triumphant return to the big screen has dropped in the Don’t Worry, Darling trailer. And besties, I am not okay.

After his 2017 film debut in Dunkirk, the "As It Was" singer has landed a lead role in Olivia Wilde’s latest film. Since it’s mention in September 2020, cinema geeks and Harry stans alike have been scouring the internet for clues about Styles’ latest role. However, the sleuthing ceased last week when the Don’t Worry, Darling trailer answered all of the questions we’ve been dying to know:

It’s a thriller

In 2019, Wilde came out swinging with her hit directorial debut Booksmart, a critically acclaimed coming-of-age comedy. However, Don’t Worry, Darling seems to be a departure from her previous work. Her newest film takes place in an isolated, utopian community in the 1950s California desert. Cutting between clips of the stunning California skyline, and hair-raising scenes of Pugh ripping cellophane off of her face, it’s safe to assume that Wilde’s newest film is a dark, spine-tingling thriller. And we’re here for it.

While some details of the plot are unknown, we were able to learn a bit more about the film’s premise. Set in 1950s suburbia, the film follows Alice–a housewife–and her picture perfect husband–Jack– living in what seems to be a utopia. However, things take a dark turn when Alice discovers that the life around her is not what it seems. What exactly is going wrong? We’re not exactly sure. But with the term “The Freedom Project” said throughout the film, it’s safe to say that we will be alongside Alice in discovering the dark underbelly of her perfect life.

Harry Styles and florence pugh are married

Well, married in the movie of course, though we wish these two could adopt us for life. Florence Pugh is set to play Alice, while Harry Styles himself is slated to play the role of her husband, Jack. The trailer shows the two dancing in 1950s garb, lounging around the pool, and engaging in married life under the 1950s sun. However, the trailed also teased us with some steamy scenes that we can’t get out of our head: Harry and Florence in the kitchen…Harry and Florence in the bed…Harry and Florence on the counter…how long do I have to wait to see this movie again? Due to personal reasons, I will be passing away after we witness Styles and Pugh’s onstage chemistry.

While the role originally went to Shia Labeouf, who had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts, both Wilde and Pugh agreed that Styles would be the perfect fit. According to Deadline, after wooing the two during an initial meeting, the feeling was mutual to get Styles casted in the movie. And we are so glad it was!

Chris Pine, Olivia Wilde, and Others Are Set to Star

The trailer also revealed other A-list actors that will be sharing the screen with Pugh and Styles. Star Trek’s Chris Pine is set to play Frank, the head of The Freedom Project, while Olivia Wilde is stepping out from behind the camera to play the supporting role of Mary.

After Dakota Johnson left the production due to scheduling conflicts, the role of Margaret–Pugh’s neighbor–was given to the If Beale Street Could Talk star, KiKi Layne. Other notable celebs joining the cast include Nick Kroll, Gemma Chan, and Douglas Alexander Smith. With a cast this star-studded, consider me invested!

“Don’t Worry Darling” Will be out this year

The final bit of information the trailer revealed is that Don’t Worry Darling is set to release on September 23rd, 2022. With the premiere being a mere four months away, and the release of the Harry's House album arriving within the coming days, it’s safe to say that 2022 is going to be the year of Harry. And I’m not mad about it!
