Favorable Reviews for the iPhone 5

Move over diamonds, we all know that a cellphone is a girl’s real best friend – especially when you can dress it in a diamond-studded cover! And the new iPhone 5 promises to be a pretty good BFF. It has a ton of new features, a brand new look, and it promises to work even better than the last generation. In case you missed it, the new phone became available on September 21.

The phone itself is a little bit different than the older models according to the reviewers at engadget.com. It’s thinner, lighter, and taller, adding a few more pixels of screen space. The front of the phone will still have the glass screen that we know and love, but the back has a sleek brushed aluminum plate (still available in black or white!). Inside the phone, there is a better graphics card, a new and improved camera, and a stronger battery that promises more time for Facebook browsing! And the new phone is equipped for 4G, so it has super fast cell phone service.

Apple also rolled out their iOS6 operating system this week, with new features that are available on older models like the 4 and 4S, as well. One of the coolest new features is the panorama, available as an option in camera settings. Enabling the option allows you to take sweeping shots of anything you like (check out the view from the HC office below!). Oh, and Siri now knows movie times. Way to go, Siri! The New York Times reviewed the usability of the new iPhone 5 and iOS6 system and found it generally favorable.

There are a couple of things that we’re less enthusiastic about, like the fact that the Google maps feature is no longer around. The Apple maps feature doesn’t seem like it’s quite up to par, and it’s even mislabeling cities and giving wrong directions. In addition to that, the old connection port at the bottom of the phone has been swapped out for a new type of connector, called ‘Lightening’. That means to use the iPhone 5 with all your favorite media players, you’ll need a $30 adapter. Despite all the new features, people don’t like some of these changes, and the Huffington post reported on the most common complaints from new iPhone 5 users.
