The Trailer For ‘Younger’ Season 5 Shows Things Are About To Get Steamy and Complicated

TV Land’s series Younger is coming back for a fifth season, and from the looks of the trailer, it’s a doozy.

The series, which follows Liza (played by Sutton Foster, one of my fave ladies from Broadway), a 40-year-old divorced mother who pretends to be 26 in order to get her job as an assistant at a major book publishing company, and her co-worker Kelsey (Hilary friggin Duff), who is the only one at Empirical that knows Liza’s secret, is gearing up to make things steamier and more complicated than ever.

From the looks of the season five trailer, it seems as though Liza and Kelsey are going to have to keep up with a lot more than just Liza’s big secret. At the beginning of the trailer, you see Liza tell Kelsey,  “You become what you do. If you cheat, you become a cheater. If you lie, you become a liar.”

I appreciate the representation and flipping of gender roles Younger is looking to portray this season. Usually we hear narratives about men cheating and seeing multiple people at once. Obviously infidelity is never good, but it’s nice to see more than one side of it. I also hope we see the consequences of their actions, and from the intensity of this preview, it seems things aren’t going to end without it coming to a major blowup.

Of course, we will also continue to see Liza as she sorts through the complications that come with her secret. “The world is ageist, and until that changes, I can’t play by the rules,” she declares.

It also looks like Charles, Pauline, and Maggie are having some drama of their own. I’m not even going to attempt to speculate on what’s going on with all that.

Younger returns on June 5, but you can catch up with full episodes of S1-4 on TV Land’s website.
