Jo & Alex Brought Back the Elevator Hookup on ‘Grey’s Anatomy,’ & I’m Definitely Crying

If there’s one staple of a classic Grey’s Anatomy episode, it’s a good old elevator scene. Started by Meredith and Derek at the very beginning of the show, we’ve seen our fair share of make-out seshes, awkward ex encounters, serious conversations, surgeries and more happen in elevators, but over the last few seasons, with Derek cross country and then, y’know, dead, it seemed like the tradition was fizzling out.

No more “oh screw it” hookups.

No more post marriage proposal hookups.

No more anything!

Well, I am happy to report that the TV gods have answered my prayers, and the elevator scene is alive and well. In October 5’s “Go Big or Go Home,” Jo and Alex filled the hole in my heart left by the untimely demise of MerDer, and much is right in the world once again.

For months we’ve been left to wonder “Will they (again!)?” which brought back some serious nostalgia. Alex spent some time in jail, some more time trying to win the girl back, and when he finally did win her back, Jolex locked themselves in a locker room and later, an elevator. Sound familiar? They even took it to the next step when Jo made her HoCo Pro, waiting for Alex out by the car to ask him to come home.

What’s next—a house of candles? Are they going to hang the tumor up on their wall? It’s fine—there’s just a splinter in my eye.
