The Hunger Games Lingo You Need To Know

Want to join in on all The Hunger Games fun but don’t know where to start? Or maybe you’re just looking to refresh your memory without rereading the book. Her Campus is here to help you with some of the regularly used terms, since you already know what The Hunger Games are all about

Locations
Arena: Where the Hunger Games take place each year. Every arena is different and unknown to the contestants and viewers. 
Capitol: The central government of Panem and also the name for the primary city, which rules over the twelve districts of Panem. The Capitol is the wealthiest of all the districts. 
Districts: Sections of Panem which have been divided and assigned manufacturing or agricultural duties to service the Capitol.
Panem: The country which has remained from what is left of North America.

Game Customs 
Hunger Games: An annual event where a male and female tribute from each of Panem’s twelve districts is forced to fight to the death until only one remains. The entire Games is televised, and the viewing of the Games is mandatory for all Panem residents. 
Escort: A Capitol official assigned to each district’s two tributes to help them prepare for the Games. 
Gamemakers: Capitol officials assigned with constructing and officiating each year’s Games. 
Tributes: The boy and girl children selected from each district to compete. 
Interviews: Before the Games begin, each tribute must participate in an interview with Cesar Flickerman, done to introduce the spectators to the players and give a chance for sponsors to decide who they want to support. 
Sponsors: People who support Hunger Games tributes by purchasing items sent to them during the event by little parachutes. 

People
Katniss: The protagonist of the books and the female tribute who volunteers for her district, District 12. 
Peeta: The male tribute from District 12 and Katniss’s old classmate from school.
Gale: Katniss’ best friend and hunting partner. 
Snow: The president of Panem, full name Coriolanus Snow.
