'The Fosters' Spin-Off Officially Has A Name & I'm Definitely Underwhelmed

I’ve been a fan of The Fosters since it first aired at the end of my freshman year in high school. I grew up with Callie and Brandon and Mariana and Jesus and Jude. I watched them struggle with relationships, getting into college, sibling drama, and other things I and so many other viewers could relate to season after season. With the three-day series finale airing June 3 through June 6, I’ve been pretty anxious to hear more details about the spin-off starring Cierra Ramirez and Maia Mitchell.

Today Freeform announced the long-awaited title: Good Trouble. Yes, it’s both an oxymoron and a little bit boring. I was expecting something more memorable, especially with Mariana and Callie being the main characters.

According to Joanna Johnson, one of the creators and showrunners, “We’re seeing millennials in this country doing extraordinary things, making noise, taking action. Stirring up ‘Good Trouble’ as they grow, strive and struggle to make the mess of their early twenties into the message.”

The title makes sense with the show’s premise. Mariana and Callie start a new chapter in their lives and move down to Los Angeles to pursue their own dreams. I’m expecting them to get into their share of trouble because that’s what happens when you go off on your own for the first time. It happens to all of us.

Although I’m not thrilled with the title of the spin-off, there’s no doubt that I’ll be sitting down next year with a big bowl of popcorn, a full tub of ice cream and blanket, ready to indulge in the lives of two of my favorite television characters.
