Eating out, without regrets

Hey collegiettes™!

So my little tidbit of wisdom for the day has to do with something that can be any diets worst enemy…eating out.

Obviously I am not an expert on this subject, but I figured I would share what has been helpful in my experience. Plus, with the limited food options we have here on campus at Wake, eating out is something we do fairly often, most especially on the weekends.

The tactic that has best helped me in the past is planning ahead. Though this is my motto for pretty much everything in life, it really can help you make good choices. Being able to look at the menu before you are sitting in the restaurant with your stomach growling will help you choose with your head not your stomach…which in most cases is a decision you will regret later.

Tonight, for example, I knew I was going out to eat with a friend so I looked at the menu ahead of time and picked out a few options that I knew would be the healthiest. I’m so glad I did, because I realized once I was looking at the menu that the place we went to was not exactly overflowing with healthy foods.

If you choose the right meal, then the rest is easy, all you have to do is make sure that you don’t eat the discarded fries from a friend’s plate and you’re golden! Then while your friends are complaining later about how bad their stomach’s hurt from eating too much, they will realize you made the right choice when you can fully enjoy the rest of your night. Once you get past the initial hardships and temptations, it pays off to be healthy.
