The dangers of the endless bread basket

So I’m doing okay. I wouldn’t go as far as saying I have been an angel eating-wise these last two days, but I also can honestly boast that I haven’t completely ditched the diet. Though I cannot strictly follow the SELF Jump Start Diet, I am trying really hard to channel Jillian Michaels in my food choices.

For breakfast this morning, I had muesli with lots of fresh fruit and a biscuit. I am proud to say that I resisted all the pastries, making a rule that only allows myself one “bread” item (as in biscuits, pastries etc.) at breakfast…so that I way I don’t go overboard (pardon the cliché).

Since I had a pretty filling breakfast, I just wanted a little snack for lunch. Well, getting just a small snack is hard to do when you walk into a buffet filled with all kinds of yummy eats. So I ended up with two pieces of vegetarian sushi, a few pieces of pita with hummus, fruit and a little bit of corn. Random, I know, but that is what happens when every type of food imaginable is literally at your fingertips.

Dinner tonight was at a nice Italian restaurant on the boat for a friend’s birthday. Though pasta is not a temptation for me at all, warm bread, especially with olive oil and balsamic vinaigrette is definitely a weak spot. What do you think they had multitudes of tonight? Yep you guessed it, three different kinds of fresh bread with olive oil and balsamic to dip…and they just kept bringing more out!

Yes, I will admit it; I ate way too much bread. I’m pretty disappointed in myself, because for the most part I have been eating fairly well on this vacation…you could even say spectacularly compared to what my previous vacations entail.  I even skipped out of dessert last night!

To redeem myself in your eyes just a little bit, I would like to mention that I worked out yesterday and today! Yesterday I did the elliptical for 40 minutes and then some abs. Today I ran 3 miles on the treadmill and then did weights and abs.

So here is where you all come in. I need advice. How can I get back on track after my little bump in the road? And how can I keep this carb overload from happening again?
