The Daiquiri Dilemma

Hello Collegiettes™!

I’m so sorry that I neglected you all yesterday! The internet was not working on the boat so I couldn’t get manage to post anything. But I am back and better than ever(also tanner tan ever) today!

Those of you enjoying the beach this week, especially if it is someplace tropical, will understand my newest diet dilemma while on SB. When you are in the hot sun, laying on a white sandy beach and looking at crystal clear turquoise water like I have been doing all week there is only one type of drink that comes to mind, a daiquiri. Okay, there are a few others you may think of…margaritas, pina coladas, etc, but the point is that none of these drinks fall remotely under the healthy label.

To find out if one of your favorite spring break refreshments are healthy or not, check out the great Her Campus Article about the Highest and Lowest calorie drinks. Guess which are on top? Of course, all three of the ones I mentioned. So what is a girl to do, when she desperately wants a yummy, fruity frozen beverage to cool down with on a scorching Caribbean day?

Well, the main way to avoid these calorie packed drinks is to just find new favorites. Sounds easy, but I know it is more difficult than that. Some alternatives to the high calorie daiquiris and margaritas are mojitos and cosmos.

Realistically, many of us wait all year to spend a relaxing day on the beach sipping a colorful umbrella topped drink and never once stress about school. So, I say make a compromise this spring break. If you have been following the SELF Jump Start Diet, or even if you haven’t, then you have obviously been working hard to eat well and exercise. So if you can keep that up over spring break, then reward yourself one day with a fun drink of your choice.

How often can you get a Piña Colada in a pinapple?!

As long as you aren’t knocking five daiquiris back a day, one fun drink will not completely derail your diet.

This break I have learned that the balance between letting your self have fun and staying on track though it definitely takes work, really is possible. So believe in yourself and go into or out of spring break with confidence!
