Creator of Jersey Shore Brings New Show to VH1

While “genius” might not be the first word that immediately comes to mind when describing Jersey Shore, that’s what the new show by the Shore’s creator, SallyAnn Salsano, is being hailed as.

VH1 just announced that Salsano, the brains behind the debauchery of the Jersey Shore, is back with a new show that is bound to be just as cringe-worthy and likely as provocative.

Mama Drama will feature 11 people in a house. Add drama then stir. It may seem like any other formula for a reality TV show, but this one promises to strike up some sociological commotion among cast members.

The cast is broken down into four pairs (and one triad) of mother-daughter twosomes. What’s so exciting about that? Well, this cast isn’t exactly very Hillary and Chelsea Clinton-esque. Essentially, you have a bunch of cougars that are less mother figure than wannabe best friend of their daughters. You know, the ones that try to squeeze into bandage dresses, go clubbing with their offspring and hit on all of the same guys that are chatting up their kids?

Salsano told the Hollywood Reporter: “With this show, I had the same experience I had in Jersey Shore [Season] 1. Where I couldn’t leave the control room because I could not believe what was happening before my eyes. At any second chaos could erupt, and most days it did. When there was a fight in that house, it wasn’t a regular reality show squabble—it was personal. Whoever was saying something was going after someone’s mother or daughter.”

Mama Drama debuts on January 1 at 9pm on VH1. Will you be watching, collegiettes™?
