Blog Review: Olivia Palermo

Olivia Palermo, most notable for her stint on the MTV show “The City,” a spin-off of “The Hills,” recently launched her own lifestyle and fashion blog named after none other than the fashionista herself.

While staring on “The City” alongside fellow fashionista Whitney Port, Palermo displayed her distinctive fashion sense while making a few enemies along the way. She may not have made many friends on the show, but she has won the respect of many viewers and fashion lovers for her extensive fashion knowledge and impeccable taste.

The official blog, www.oliviapalermo.com, houses tips on lifestyle, travel and fashion. Palermo and her contributing writers post daily, everything from the next up and coming accessory to the history of the first New York Fashion Week. While the variety of content is refreshing, I found the blog un-relatable for us mere fashion mortals who cannot afford the designer duds shown.

I love admiring designer fashions as much as the next girl, but sadly my bank account cannot handle the damage an Alexander Wang sweater would cause, as I am sure is the case for most young women. So where are the tips for fashion fanatics on a budget? Why not include ways to get that designer look for less?

Another un-relatable aspect of the blog is the exclusion of “real women.” Instead of modeling expensive outfits from her own private collection, Palermo should pass the modeling torch to girls of different body shapes and show how to rock those designer-inspired outfits for less. Now that is a blog that I would appreciate and read religiously.
