Beyond Fitness: 3 Deadly Sins of Halloween and How to Avoid Them

This is a sponsored feature. All opinions are 100% from Her Campus.

Hey ladies!!  My apologies for not posting sooner.  Because Her Campus was switching over to a super cool new server, I thought I’d give you a Double Blog Halloween feature!

So today’s Beyond Fitness is actually the Tip for yesterday!  If you’re like me, you probably LOVE Halloween and go ALL OUT.  With those massive celebrations, we can definitely leave our bodies a little damaged; let’s face it ladies, Halloween is definitely not the healthiest holiday out there.  Check out the THREE DEADLY SINS of Halloween and what to do if you commit them!

1.  Too much candy/indulging!  Ahhh, what do you do if you just ate an entire 10 pack of Halloween Reese’s pumpkins?!  Even though, we may have surpassed the socially acceptable age to trick or treat (don’t judge – me I kind of want to go around my neighborhood Sunday), there is no doubt that candy just seems to magically appear during the entire month of October.
Andreya’s Advice:  Give yourself a pep talk!  Set yourself a reasonable limit on candy consumption.  For example, don’t say you can only have 1 piece (we all know thats not going to happen!), but don’t allot yourself 15 mini snickers either.  Holly Perkins, New Balance’s Fitness expert, gave me advice to make fitness a non-negotiable part of my weekly routine.  Apply the same method to your eating and voile-la! you will survive Halloween without packing on the pounds!

2.  Lack of sleep!  As collegiettes, we know that Halloween isn’t just a 1 day affair anymore.  We have parties, mixers, and get-togethers the entire week of Halloween, leaving little time for sleep.  Many of the other fitness bloggers as well as Holly Perkins stressed the importance of sleep.  It gives your body a chance to replenish itself and is vital to your overall health and fitness.
Andreya’s Advice:  Set time aside to sleep.  It may sound pretty obvious, but trust me, its a lot more difficult during the holidays than you think.  On top of all the celebrations, we also have school work to keep up on, so get your priorities straight GIRL!  Designate certain days you definitely want to go out, and utilize the others to rejuvenate yourself.

3.  You pretend its mid-July!  Now this one I am TOTALLY guilty of.  We all know Halloween in college can often mean you are obligated to sport a costume that’s barely there.  The “less is more” saying really applies here.  But we totally sacrifice our health and well-being for the sake of looking hot.  Sickness is definitely not fun, and I’m so thankful I have yet to catch anything (crossing my fingers).
Andreya’s Advice:  REALITY CHECK!  It’s October!  Granted, its been a little warmer than usual here on Long Island, but that doesn’t mean you should whip out your bathing suit!  Try some weather friendly costumes (this website gives some really cute ideas!), or just add in a few cold-weather accessories.  Throwing on some leg warmers, tights, or even just adding a cardigan will really help you to stay healthy during Halloween.

Well Collegiettes, there you have it!  Avoid these DEADLY SINS on Halloween and you’ll be good to go!  Have fun ladies!
Peace, love, and fitness
