The New ‘Barbie’ Trailer Is Absolutely Sending Me

For generations, Barbie dolls have been a quintessential part of many children’s lives. Barbie has become one of the most famous toys in the world, with dolls boasting dozens of different careers that kids can be inspired by. Barbie has grown far beyond just toys, however, creating an entire franchise of entertainment. The first Barbie movies came out in the early 2000s, and were extremely popular. Over 40 animated films were released of Barbie and her friends going on different adventures for kids to enjoy. The Barbie franchise additionally released television shows, online games, and even social media accounts. Despite the first dolls coming out over 60 years ago, it seems like Barbie has never been more popular. Now, in 2023, Barbie is about to release something the empire has never done before: a live-action movie.

The live-action movie was first announced in July 2021, with Greta Gerwig as the director and actress Margot Robbie playing the titular role. On April 4, 2023, an official trailer for Barbie was released, building anticipation for the film. Here’s everything you need to know about the movie.

Barbie Trailer

The latest trailer for Barbie was released on April 4, receiving over 500,000 views in just two hours on YouTube and over two million on Twitter. “Barbie” was trending at No. 1 on Twitter as well. Aside from a short teaser released in February, this was fans’ first glimpse into the Barbie world Gerwig created.

Right from the start, it feels like the audience has entered Barbie’s own world. The trailer is full of Barbie’s signature hot-pink color, from her sparkly outfits to her dreamhouse. The clip opens with Robbie saying hello to her fellow Barbies and Kens, who are all having fun on the beach. Despite the film’s PG-13 rating, the trailer is sure to remind the audience of playing with Barbie dolls as kids.

According to the film’s IMDb page, the film will follow Barbie having an existential crisis in Barbie Land. Barbie will be forced to leave her home to enter the “real world.”

Barbie Cast

After Robbie’s casting was shared in July 2021, Warner Brothers announced that Ryan Gosling would be starring alongside her as Ken, Barbie’s longtime boyfriend. On June 15, 2022, the studio shared a first look at Gosling’s transformation. In the photo, he sported Ken’s signature bleach-blond hair and branded underwear.

New cast members were also just announced on the movie’s Instagram account. Notably, the film will also star Simu Liu, Issa Rae, Michael Cera, and Dua Lipa. The star-studded cast is shown posing proudly in their brightly-colored Barbie outfits.
