Call Her FiancĂ©e! Call Her Daddy host Alex Cooper is engaged, and sheâs finally revealing all the details to the Daddy Gang. Cooper met her now-fiancĂ©, Matt Kaplan, in 2020 on a Zoom business call. Shortly after, the two of them started dating. Cooper kept their relationship under wraps at first, referring to Kaplan strictly by code name (Mr. Sexy Zoom Man) on the podcast. While Cooper kept his identity a secret, she shared information about their relationship in broad terms. Now that they are engaged, fans are finally getting some of the answers to the questions theyâve been asking for years.Â
In an April 24 interview with W Magazine, Cooper showed off her vintage 1920s oval-cut diamond ring and shared details of the proposal. While fans just learned about the proposal through the interview and a post on Cooperâs Instagram, she actually got engaged almost two months ago on March 3, 2023. Cooper hasnât always known if marriage was something that she wanted, hence the Instagram engagement caption of âI bet no one had this on their 2023 bingo card lol.âÂ
Cooper refused to let herself settle. Cooper told W Magazine, âWith Matt, it immediately was obvious to me, once our relationship progressed to the point that it was time, that yes, I would love to marry him.â In November 2022, Cooper gave Kaplan permission to propose whenever he wanted. Cooper says he was âbeamingâ because he knew she wasnât sure if she ever wanted to get married.Â
When the time for the proposal came, Kaplan enlisted the help of Cooperâs publicist. They set up a fake photoshoot that Cooper thought was for W Magazine. Cooper remembers thinking the shoot had no direction and could tell people were stalling, she just didnât know why. The fake photoshoot also worked as a way to make sure Cooperâs hair, makeup, and nails were done for the proposal photos. The fake shoot also served as a way to get Cooper out of the house so Kaplan could set up a scavenger hunt (!!!) and get her out of sweatpants and a hoodie (which, in true Alex Cooper fashion, she still ended up wearing).Â
Cooper came home from the fake photo shoot (in her sweatsuit merch) to their entire house filled with lit candles, music playing, and a scavenger hunt that led to their backyard, where Kaplan proposed. The hunt started with a video on her computer that said âPlay me.â The video consisted of Kaplan in the same outfit he wore in the Zoom meeting where they met. He talked about how much he loved Cooper and then instructed her to open the card he had set up which started the scavenger hunt around their house.Â
âThe kitchen, for example, had over 30 framed photos of our firsts â first date, first trip to Santa Barbara, first time we got a dog together,â Cooper told W Magazine. âEvery room had photos or mementos that weâd collected throughout our time together.â
The clue that finished off the hunt was a card that said, âMeet me down by the Buddha,â which was paired with a glass of champagne. Kaplan was waiting outside with their two dogs in bow ties. (ADORABLE.)Â
âHe got down on one knee and said, âYouâre my soulmate, the love of my life. You make me a better man. Please do me the honor of marrying me.ââ Cooper said. âI like, blacked out. I think I said yes at first. It was very surreal.â
Cooper said the thing that truly changed her mind about marriage was her relationship and âinsane chemistryâ with Kaplan. From the beginning, their relationship was different from Cooperâs previous relationships. Not only did they communicate well, but they also over-communicated about difficult topics. âHaving that foundation of honesty and trust allowed us to get through things in life that made it so I couldn’t envision anyone else by my side,â said Cooper.Â
Kaplan has also been nothing but supportive of Cooperâs career, something she said didnât happen a lot with men in her life. She says Kaplan has been her âbiggest supporter.â Since Kaplan is so private, Cooper says it was weird for him to have the Daddy Gang know who he is. But, since it is Cooperâs life, he has fully embraced it and loves the fans.Â
According to Cooper, the only thing that will slow down wedding planning is her not knowing what she wants. Since she didnât always dream of having a wedding one day, she has never envisioned her dream wedding. The only thing she knows for sure is that her wedding dress wonât be a princess gown. âAlthough, [a princess gown] would allow me to put sweatpants underneath,â Cooper joked.Â
