5 Fun Things To Do Inside During Hurricane Sandy

All along the east coast, winds are whipping and rain is coming down hard. We’re well on our way to experiencing Hurricane Sandy, and most colleges in the path of the hurricane have suspended classes for the day. While that might leave you a few extra hours to get some sleep or homework done, there are always those of us who go a little stir crazy when we can’t go outside. So HC is here with some suggestions on fun things to do while you stay safe from the storm!

Cook!
Hopefully you stocked up on water and non-perishables, but you might want something delicious once the storm hits. Before you lose power, bake some brownies or cupcakes. You can decorate them later, and use that sugar rush to keep up your energy despite the dreary weather.

Dance!
Now that you’re all hyped up on sugar, you’re going to need to get all your energy out. Since you can’t really hit the track during a Category 1 hurricane, invite your friends over into your dorm room and crank the music! Use a player that is battery operated, ideally, so the storm won’t interrupt your dance party. And hey, if the lights go out, just turn it into a rave!

Clean!
This is probably the last thing you want to hear, but a rainy day can be the perfect time to organize. Especially if the howling wind scares you, cleaning and reorganizing can help calm you down with how boring and methodical it is! And if you clean out some old clothes to donate, you can make room for a shopping spree after the storm has passed.

Craft!
Break out the craft supplies and start working on all those things that you’ve seen on pinterest that you just never had time for before. We suggest some cozy projects like slipper making or creating a coffee cozy. If you don’t have a ton of supplies, just work with what you do have! You can revamp and recycle old t-shirts and use them in a ton of projects.

Games!
Remember when you were a little kid, and you didn’t have any electronics to keep you occupied on long car rides? Bring back some of those old games to keep you occupied during the storm. You can go around in a circle, each adding a sentence to make a story, or play “I Spy.” Or go with the “Frankenstorm” theme and tell scary stories with a flashlight under your chin! Or, when the lights go out, go back to an old storm classic and break out the board games. If no one in your dorm has a board game, don’t worry – you can always make your own! Make a “Hurricane Sandy” bingo card, or break out a deck of cards and play some Go Fish!

Well, collegiettes, hopefully that gives you a few ideas… But most importantly, stay safe during tonight’s storm!
