I'm Not Into Face Makeup At All, But This Foundation Stick Is Changing My Mind

I'm a hardcore makeup obsessive, but the one category I don't do much shopping in would be face and base products. I'm firmly team skincare when it comes to my base, mainly because there are limited choices for dark skin that also happen to be affordable. Finding my perf shades with new beauty brands is usually a far-fetched dream, especially ones that are within a college budget.

But lucky for me, I just discovered Black Radiance at my local drugstore, and it's seriously game-changing. Black Radiance makeup is made to celebrate the individuality of black and brown people, which means yes, I was able to find my color-match with ease. It also doesn't hurt that their #MyShadeIsEverything campaign continually features influencers like @Princess.Kaae, @BeautyRebellion and @Khadijashari for photoshoots and videos where melanin is poppin' everywhere.

Read on to learn more about my new face makeup faves that make me feel like a gorgeous, fearless black girl!

Color Perfection Foundation Stick

Black Radiance, $11; shop now

Black Radiance kindly gifted me one of these sticks, and it immediately had me swooning. I've found that a stick foundation is especially great to use to keep the mess down during application. I apply this and then blend out with a beauty sponge, and it gives me a totally even finish. Drugstore beauty gets a bad reputation for not being as good as some prestige brands, but in the case of Black Radiance that couldn’t be further from the truth! I'm not really even a foundation girl, and I'm telling you this is good

True Complexion Contour Palette

Black Radiance, $9; shop now

Considering my continuous disappointment with shade ranges in contour palettes, I was super excited to test this lil' thing out for myself. This palette is powder-based contour, but with a damp beauty sponge everything applied flawlessly. It blended perfectly with the foundation stick, and I think I've finally found an "I Woke Up Like This" base makeup combo that I love.

I think it is super important that black women can see themselves in products, messaging and campaigns, and Black Radiance upholds that value for me. It allows me to celebrate the skin that I'm in year-round, and when beauty brands focus on highlighting blackness in an authentic way, things can only get better as a result.
