Kayrene Woods

My name is Kayrene "Zara" Woods, I am a sophomore year Cybersecurity student at Old Dominion. I am 22 years old and this is the first university I've studied at. My first degree I earned at Tidewater Community College in the form of an Associate's of General Studies in Science. I am proud to be a part of the small percentage of African American women achieving their higher education in the Cybersecurity sector of the Technology field. Knowing there is no limit, I reach as far as I can when it comes to achieving my goals to build my future and see my dreams become a reality.

There are a few professional work experiences I have been able to learn so much from and stand out amongst the other jobs I've held. My absolute favorite has been working at Starbucks as a Barista and Barista Trainer, a position I held for about four years in four different cities in California and Virginia. Other positions I've held that were very enjoyable for me are lifeguarding, tutoring, and childcare. Personal connection has always been super important to me. I am always please when each new experience I have allows me to learn valuable lessons and grow as in individual.

Like any other woman my age, I have many interests that hold my intention. I am a Christian who does daily studies. Creativity is an important part of my life. I allow myself to blossom in this area with my music, fashion, writing, crocheting, school projects, and problem solving. I have a personal blog on Instagram to show my growth in all these areas, including business and investments. Prioritization of health is another top interest of mines, as I enjoy physical activity in the forms of dance, physical training, and sports like swimming, roller skating and tennis. As part of the LGBT community I also do my best to have that incorporated into my social life.
