Amy Liao

UBC '25

My name is Amy Liao (she/her/hers) and I am currently a Bachelor of Arts student at the University of British Columbia. I was born in Vancouver, and was raised in the Philippines (specifically Manila) for most of my childhood life. I came back to Vancouver prior to starting high school.

Some of my topic interests include Canadian politics, climate justice, intersectional feminism, and ethics. With that being said, I have been drawn to disciplines such as Political Science and Philosophy because of how these topics intermingle with each other. In a less serious sense, I am also an avid reader and a huge nature-explorer.

In regards to academic accomplishments, I ended my high school career (June 2021) as a Gold Crest Principal’s List Recipient (high academic standing of 90%+ from Grade 10-12). I was also a recipient of multiple awards such as the BC Achievement Scholarship, District/Authority Scholarship, and Kitsilano Secondary School French Excellence Award.
In regards to professional accomplishments, I have led and organized various successful events and workshops as the UBC Arts Undergraduate Society’s elected First Year Representative. An example would be our “Meet the Majors” event that saw around a hundred attendees who were interested in learning more about the various disciplines that the Faculty of Arts has to offer.
In regards to personal accomplishments, I have learned and am maintaining my proficiency in Mandarin, Tagalog, and French.
