Breaking Down My 5 Dream Vacations

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at U Mass Amherst chapter.

Ever since I was younger, I have always kept a list of places that I would love to travel to. Over the years, I have crossed out some of these places as my family, and I have visited there, but the list is still huge. While sitting in my small dorm made of concrete cinderblocks and looking into the bare, cold Amherst air, I can’t help but wish I was somewhere warm, eating a gourmet meal overlooking crystal blue waters. As finals approach quickly and summer is right around the corner, I have been pondering about where I want to travel in the future. Here is a breakdown of five of my dream vacations:

1. Santorini, Greece

From intricate architecture to the clear blue ocean, it has been on my bucket list for almost four years now. I would love to learn about the history, go on tours, and end the day with a meal overlooking the water while all the buildings are lit up. I want to see the luxury whitewashed houses perched on cliffs overlooking the Aegean Sea in person. I am excited to go there soon and enjoy watching the sunrises and sunsets on this popular volcanic island.

2. Venice, Italy

I think my parents tried to jip us of a trip to Italy by taking us to The Venetian in Las Vegas, but it was a bust, haha. I think Italian culture is so fascinating, and I would love to experience it in person. I have heard that the scenery is breathtaking and indescribable unless you have seen it for yourself. I’ve always wanted to go on gondola rides on the water and take in the unique lifestyle. Not to mention, I cannot wait to try the authentic food there. Cuisine is such a big part of Italian culture, and I think it would be so memorable to do a cooking class there!

3. Sydney, Australia

Only recently has traveling to “the land down under” been moving its way up my list. When I am scrolling through Twitter and seeing a post from there, it almost surprises me that I know nothing about Australia. It would be amazing to see the Opera House and Harbour Bridge in person. People online rave about the food, stunning scenic views, and great weather year-round.

4. the Maldives

Every time I see a photo of the Maldives, it makes me want to hop on a plane and go there right away. They have houses and bars in the ocean, which I find insane! It looks so cool to be able to enjoy a cocktail while sitting at a table that is in the water. I would love to hang out on the beach and go snorkeling to see the different sea creatures there. It is known for its vibrant culture, pristine beaches, sprawling greenery, and fascinating landmarks. The Maldives are also known for their water sports which are right up my alley!

5. Jamaica

This place looks like the vacation would just be so fun and relaxing. There seems like there is so much to do and so much culture to see. I definitely would love to sip a drink by the water every day. I also would like to go scuba diving during the day and experience the nightlife when the sun sets. Jamaica is perfect for foodies, which is perfect for someone like me. It is known to be one of the most diverse places in the world and is called the Island of Rhythm!
