We live in a world where there is an app for almost everything. It is highly likely that one day there will be an app for every possible need. As a Gen Zer, I am on my phone consistently throughout the day. Whether it be to check social media notifications, respond to a quick email, or check the weather, my phone is my main asset to guide me throughout my day. I like to keep my phone organized and use apps I find helpful for my own needs as a student, content creator, and woman. Here are ten of my favorite apps!

dunkin’ donuts

Okay, if you’re a caffeine-dependent gal like myself, this app is a lifesaver. When I have a lot of assignments to get done, or simply need to get out of the house, I run to Dunkin’ for a pick-me-up. This app has saved me money with their offers and free drink rewards. Once you reach 200 points, you earn a free drink of any size. You can also order ahead with their mobile order option. It’s a win-win, in my opinion!

unidays

If you have not heard of UNiDAYS, you should definitely download it if you are a current college student. You can sign up for free as long as you verify you are a student at your given university. You instantly receive codes for your favorite brands and products. Some of my favorite discounts include 20% off at Aerie and American Eagle, 15% off Casetify, 15% off Tarte, and 15% off H&M. They also have many good deals to help you save money with Apple if you need a new device for school.

canva

I use Canva every day, especially for the social media content I have to post. I use the editing photograph feature and their pre-existing templates to craft content. It is very user-friendly and free of charge. If you want unlimited access to all of the features and elements, you can upgrade to Premium for $12.99 per month. I highly recommend it if you are a content creator or take communications/graphics classes.

google photos

I use Google Photos to back up all of my photos and videos. It is very useful since I can access my files from any phone or computer with my login information. In this way, I never have to worry about losing my precious memories if my phone fails or accidentally deletes some of them from my camera roll.

flo

If you are a woman and looking for an effective period tracking app, I highly recommend Flo. I use the free option, and it allows me to track my symptoms and dates of my periods. It alerts me of symptoms I may experience and when my next period is coming. It also gives you daily insights and can help if you are trying to conceive as well.

holy bible

My faith is a very important part of my life, so my Bible app comes in handy if I do not have room to bring my physical Bible or forget to. You are able to directly highlight passages and annotate them within the app. They also offer hundreds of devotional plans if you are searching for one in a specific topic.

dexcom g6

I am a type 1 diabetic, and this app monitors my blood sugars for 24 hours every day. I am very grateful for modern medicine and technology that enables me to live a healthy life with a chronic illness. This app graphs my blood glucose levels and alarms when I go low or high. It does so through the device I wear on my arm, leg, or tummy (I have to change it weekly) wirelessly with the app.

happy color

Okay, if you say you do not have any games on your phone, you’re lying. Every college student needs mindless games on their phone to debrief from a long day. My comfort game is definitely Happy Color, which is a paint by number app. There are thousands of coloring pages to choose from, and they upload new ones daily. You choose a color and click on all of the sections that have that coordinating number in it until the entire page is complete. It is very relaxing and mindful.

spotify

I cannot live without my music. I use Spotify every day, and I pay for the premium version so I can use it without the advertisements. Music is a huge part of my life, so I would be lost without this app. Whether I’m working on assignments, running errands, cleaning, or working out, I most likely have music on. A feature of Spotify I particularly love is the “Discover Weekly” playlist. The algorithm is very good at distinguishing what kinds of music and artists you listen to the most, and then it compiles songs that fit that data into a cohesive playlist. I find so many new songs and artists through this feature.

widgetsmith

The last app is Widgetsmith which allows you to add cute widgets (mini versions of apps that show you quick information) to your home screen. On my phone, I currently have a photo of my boyfriend and I from Valentine’s Day next to my Dexcom widget. You can create time, photo, date, weather, fitness, and calendar widgets on the app. It became very popular when the iOS 14 update came out. Many Gen Zers use Widgetsmith to create aesthetic home screens with certain color schemes and symbols.

While I have many other popular apps on my phone, I hope these are some new ones you can download and enjoy! I know they help me as a female college student, so I hope they can do the same for you! Head to the app store now!
