We all love our favorite lawyer Elle Woods from the 2001 classic “Legally Blonde.” She’s sweet, confident, fashionable, and smart! She’s everything some of us aspire to be.  Here are some ways we can become our very own Elle Woods!

  1. FIND A COLOR THAT SUITS YOU

Elle Woods’ signature color was pink pink pink! Find a color that goes well with your day to day activities. You can use your skin tone (skin, hair, and eyes) to determine whether you are warm or cool-toned. Whether you’re going to the gym, the movies, or an important meeting, find suitable outfits with that color in it! For example, if your signature color was blue, I’d recommend finding blue sports bras (for the gym or walking around your home), blue stationery (pens, notebooks, cases for electronics, etc.), blue jewelry (rings, earrings, necklaces, any piercing jewelry that you have), blue blazers (for the more professional times in life), blue kitchen utensils, blue shoes, blue pieces of art, and blue of a lot of other things you love most

2. BE CLASSY

The key to being classy is being graceful and always being kind. Avoid swearing and maintain a good posture to present yourself. Buy yourself “classy” clothing. Learn proper table manners and etiquette. Spend time with other women, especially those who are influential. Be playful and youthful. Engage people with real eye contact. Women who show the most class, (in my opinion) are in historical romance novels and shows! I love watching Pride and Prejudice, Little Women, Emma, and a new favorite, Bridgerton! Watch how they move and hold themselves, especially in public areas. You don’t have to speak as proper or sound as British as they do, but speak with elegance.

3. BE KIND TO EVERYONE YOU MEET

A motto everyone should know is, “Treat others the way you want to be treated.” Although some people may not deserve your kindness, you should either ignore them or kill them with kindness! Being kind gets you a lot more respect than being rude or closed-off. Being kind wins you connections, and those connections either make you friends or future business partners! It’s not always easy, and everyday you learn something new, but being kind does help you a lot! Remember to also be kind to yourself. Thinking negatively of yourself, whether it’s your looks, smartness, fashion sense, etc, does not help you! Try to lift yourself up everyday; maybe try reading motivational quotes every morning, manifest for yourself, clean your safe space, etc.

4. SPOIL YOURSELF EVERY ONCE A WHILE

Buy nice things for yourself! Buy that shirt you’ve been wanting, that cute pen you can’t get your mind off of, or that new piece of jewelry you’ve been drooling over. Spoiling yourself doesn’t have to be with purchases, especially when you’re a broke college student. Give yourself a day off to relax and take time from school, go to a museum for free, or go outside and enjoy the sun.  Help those in need; maybe volunteer if your school is helping the homeless  or volunteer for a  service trip! Skip a day if you know it’s going to help your mental health! Don’t ever feel like you don’t deserve some rest after a long day, especially if it was stressful.

5. WORK HARD TO ACHIEVE YOUR GOALS

At the end of “Legally Blonde,” Elle Woods achieved her dream of not only attending Harvard, but graduating from Harvard and as a highly-esteemed  lawyer. It’s hard now, but imagine after you’re done -however many years of schooling your desired occupation takes- it would’ve been all worth it! Although some of us may not attend Harvard, that doesn’t mean that Elle Woods can’t be our role model or someone we aspire to be. Remember to take care of yourself along the way, and don’t be afraid to ask for help from your peers, professors, or family.
