5 Ways to De-stress with Friends or By Yourself

It’s midterm season and I’ve been needing to get away from the books and instead have a friends-getaway! In between my studies and going crazy from all the upcoming assignments and exams that are around the corner, I’ve taken the time to appreciate and dedicate time to myself. Taking time to do something fun, other than making flashcards or pulling all-nighters, is what everyone needs even during such a busy and unnerving time.

Here’s 5 ways that my friends and I have been de-stressing while juggling midterm madness!

Food, food, and more food

You can never go wrong with taking a break and going out to eat with friends or by yourself. Don’t forget to eat in between study sessions and treat yourself to that one craving or place you’ve been wanting to try. Sitting in an outdoor cafe or getting takeout is a simple yet much needed getaway from your screen time and readings!

Karaoke Night

If you love to sing or just want to vent your feelings out into song, try going out for karaoke. This activity is best with friends, but hey, don’t let me stop you from doing this by yourself, have fun! I’ve only had one karaoke session with my friends and I feel like my shoulders have gotten lighter ever since. Sing your heart out to some oldies, your favorite songs, and maybe even a few new ones introduced by your friends.

My go to karaoke song is “Breaking Free” from High School Musical…or anything by Taylor Swift or Doja Cat.

A college student’s bank account? Never heard of her!

Who says college students can only live on groceries, toiletries, and other dorm necessities. From time to time, we do need to splurge on things that we don’t necessarily need, but want. Just a little treat to say, “Good job! Here’s a reward for all the hard work you’re doing.” Whether that be clothes, makeup, that one thing in your cart online, or more food, our bank accounts will be crying tears of joy.

Skin care = self care

It’s the perfect time to pamper yourself and relax. I’m sure I’m not the only one that has gotten acne and has forgotten to wash my hair during midterm season. So, here’s a reminder to thoroughly go through your skincare routine and use those face masks! Make it into a girls night-in or chill in the comfort of your own room, put on that face/hair mask, put on your favorite show or movie, and hit the lights because it’s a “No Work” zone tonight.

Girl talks and Jam sessions

Last but not least, just to relieve stress and to get some things off your chest, grab some friends to vent, rant, or to just talk about all the little things happening/going on in your head/life. Also, blast that music and jam with good company and good conversations. Can’t go wrong with being around people that lift you up, especially when midterms may bring you down.

If you needed a sign to tell yourself to take a break from work, well this is it! Go out or stay in, but recline and relax because we all need to treat ourselves during midterms. Don’t wait till after you finish your midterms, take some time to de-stress now. I always say, “treat yourself before, during, and after anything remotely stressful and you can do it all!”

Good luck and best wishes with everyone’s midterms!
