Do you have an interview soon? Have no fear! Here are eight commonly asked interview questions you’ll probably face and how to best answer them.
While these questions are not necessarily new, they are still very relevant today for both jobs and internships.
- “Tell me about yourself.”

This question has been floating around for a while, but it is still one of the first frequently asked questions.
TIP: Keep your answers short and to the point. Also, make sure you do your research. What strengths and qualities does this company value and is looking for in its employees?
- “Tell me about a challenge or conflict you faced at work and how did you deal with it?”

So, how do we tackle this annoying behavioral question?
TIP: Choose an example that may be relevant to the company you are interviewing for. What kinds of problems could arise in that specific company? Do you have any similar past experiences? Remember to be specific and concise with your answer.
- “what is your greatest strength?”

This is a straightforward question, yet it can easily trip you up. Which strength should you choose to talk about?
TIP: Choose a strength that you know the company puts a lot value in. What strengths are crucial to the position you are aiming for?
- “What is your greatest weakness?”

Another straightforward question yet it makes us nervous, but it’s not as bad as you think. So, how do you answer this question without jeopardizing your chances?
TIP: Choose a weakness that isn’t a major deal-breaker for the position you are applying for. Make sure to also include what you have done in the past to overcome it.
- “Why do you want to work here?”

The purpose of this question is for the interviewer to understand what your motivations are for wanting this job.
TIP: Discuss what you like about the company and what you can do to help improve or grow the workplace community. Show that you’re passionate about fulfilling their needs and solving any problems that may arise.
- “What is your greatest accomplishment?”

This question is similar to the strengths question and can be answered in a similar fashion.
TIP: Pick an accomplishment that highlights your strengths and how it aligns with company values.
- “Where do you see yourself in Five years?”

This one is a toughie. Who can say where you will be in five years? However, this is a question that is frequently asked if you’re looking for a long-term job.
TIP: Emphasize your commitment to both the company and the position long-term. Try not to talk as if this position is only a stepping stone.
- “Do you have any questions for me?”

This is a question that is usually asked at the end of the interview. While it may be tempting to say “no”, it’s actually better to take that offer and ask the interviewer a few questions.
Why? It gives you the chance to stand out from the crowd!
Take the opportunity to showcase your interest, knowledge and passion for the job.
TIP: Ask about the company. Don’t ask questions about what you could potentially gain from them. Did you find anything interesting during your company research?
Example questions you could ask:
- What kinds of skills and experience are you looking for in a candidate?
- Can you show me examples of projects I will be working on if hired?
- What are the most important tasks you’d like someone in this position to accomplish within the first month or two on the job?
While these questions are nothing really new, they are important to know how to answer before any upcoming interviews!
Essentially, make sure to do your company research. It shows that you are passionate about the company and the position you are applying for.
