Virtual dates have been happening for many years now, however, there is no doubt that the Covid-19 pandemic caused the popularity of them to rise significantly. From continuing to social distance to being in a long distance relationship, these 5 virtual date ideas are ones that you can be sure to make your online dates more engaging and entertaining.

1. Watch something together

One activity that always is a go-to in my relationship is watching a movie or YouTube videos together. Many online apps including Skype and Zoom allow for screensharing so it optimal for this type of date. Sometimes it can be difficult to decide what to watch so my boyfriend and I have a word document made up of all of our picks for what to watch next. By alternating between each other’s choices, it’s only fair who gets to choose the next show to watch.

2. Take online quizzes

What’s a fun way to learn more about each other…take random quizzes! There are thousands of free online quizzes/question sets that you can take with your significant other to learn more about them. One of my favorite websites to find random quizzes is Buzzfeed. My boyfriend and I find it amusing to be able to take completely unrealistic and stupid quizzes just to see what our result would be. If you would like to make it into a more significant activity, then you can try to take a couple’s quiz to see each other’s knowledge about each other or learn what you do not already know. You can even do a virtual double date with other couples to see which couple knows each other the best.

3. Dinner date

This date idea is one that is very popular for being in-person, however, it can be made into a very fun virtual date. You can decide to either start the call once you both have secured your own meals or you can choose to even order delivery for each other to add a surprise element. I think this date, even virtually, can be very romantic as it allows time to just talk about each other’s day while getting the nourishment that we need.

4. Play video games

My boyfriend’s personal favorite type of date is of course anything that involves video games. There are many free websites online that have all types of games that you can play whenever you want. The point of this date is to simply have fun while either playing childish games or trying out new games that you have always wanted to try. Sometimes there are even multiplayer games that you can both play together as a team or opponents.

5. Study date

This one is for my students who want to balance their social life while maintaining a stable semester. As both my boyfriend and I are busy college students, most of our time spent talking is while we are either studying or completing assignments. Often, college relationships tend to struggle because their time commitments do not always align with each other. However with having the ability to hang out at the same time as being productive, I think that this date will continue to remain a necessity during our college career.
