Valentines Day Gift Ideas for your Long Distance Relationship

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SJSU chapter.

Valentines Day is a fun holiday where everyone gets the opportunity to make the people in their lives feel extra loved. For some, this may be more difficult since their significant other is living elsewhere. Being apart on this day isn’t ideal, but physical distance doesn’t have to stop you from showering your partner with love. Long-distance doesn’t have to make the holiday a dreaded day. There are several ways to show your partner how much you care for them, one of them being gift giving. I love giving my boyfriend gifts, and I’m not going to let a few hundred miles stop me! For those of you in the same boat as me, I’ll be sharing some of my favorite Valentine’s Day present ideas that you can send to your long-distance lover. Whether your budget is $0.00 or $100.00, there are still several gifts that can brighten your partner’s day even when you can’t be together.

  1. Send a card or letter

There’s nothing that will make your partner as happy as being able to read about how much you love them. Love letters are a classic gift that your partner will cherish. Letters and cards also require little to no budget! Your loving words are enough to make this Valentine’s Day special for them. A reminder of how meaningful your relationship is will undoubtedly be appreciated by your partner. They deserve to know how grateful you are for everything that they do, so putting it in a letter is an easy way to do so!

  1. Doordash

The way to anybody’s heart is through their stomach. Although you won’t be able to have a traditional Valentine’s Day dinner date, you can still spend the night on facetime with a delicious meal! You can use any food delivery service to send your significant other their favorite meal or dessert. You can either ask them what they want if you’re unsure, or you can surprise them! A Valentines Day dinner date is still possible, and this is what I’ll be spending my day doing! Personally, we’ll be surprising each other with DoorDash meals and I am so excited!

  1. Monthly date cards (some virtual some in person)

It’s important to still spend quality time with your partner despite the distance. Making monthly date cards is an easy way to do that! You can personalize them so that the dates can accommodate your and your partner’s interests. When I gave my boyfriend this gift, I included a variety of virtual dates and some that could be done in person. Some virtual date ideas could be watching movies, having a painting date, or baking/cooking one of your favorite foods! When it came to the dates we would do physically together, I included a hike, a day trip of his choice, a date at the drive-ins, and so many more. The gifts can range from a low to a high budget, which is super nice. This is a gift that will definitely make your partner feel special and it gives you something to look forward to every month!

  1. Care package (framed photo, favorite snacks)

Sending your significant other a care package is a wonderful way to show them love. You can customize it based on their hobbies, interests, and preferred snacks. This also doesn’t have to be incredibly expensive. You can send them more affordable presents and it’ll still make their day. Some ideas of items to include would be a framed photo, their favorite snacks, a blanket, or clothes you think they would like. Including a nice card or letter for them would make this gift a lot more sentimental as well.

  1. Customizable clothing

This gift idea is one of my personal favorites. On makecustomgifts.com, you can put your face on socks, underwear, pajamas, pillows, and more. Their prices are relatively affordable. Everything is under $40 with the exception of the pajama sets, which can cost about $100 for the top and bottom. You can get socks for only $12.95! I gave my boyfriend some gifts from this website with my face on them, and his reaction was priceless! It’s a fun gift to give and your significant other would definitely get a laugh out of it.

  1. Lovebook

I love this gift idea so much! There’s a company called Lovebook that allows you to personalize a storybook for you and your partner. You can customize the characters so that they look like you, which is my favorite part. You are also able to choose pictures and type your own pages so that the story personally applies to your relationship. This gift is one of the more expensive ones that I mentioned, but it is still so worth it in my opinion! This is a present your partner can treasure and keep forever. They also have many coupons available and several influencers who offer discount codes have collaborated with this company. The book will make Valentine’s Day unforgettable and incredibly special!

  1. Daily notes for them to read

There may be some days where you don’t get to talk to your partner as often as you would like to, but giving them daily notes would make missing you a lot easier! My boyfriend and I both have some sort of daily handwritten notes from each other, and it’s such a nice way to start the day. You can write about the reasons why you love them, activities you miss doing together, or want to do when you get to see each other, general morning greetings. Luckily, this gift also doesn’t require any money. So you can give this to your significant other without stressing about finances!

I hope that these gift ideas help you spoil your significant other on this holiday. Despite the physical distance, Valentine’s Day is still so special! Celebrating your relationship and the love you have for each other can be done together or apart. Even if you can’t be with your partner, you can still enjoy the day with friends or other loved ones who are physically closer to you! You can look forward to the day despite your significant other not being there. I hope that you all have an amazing Valentines Day
