Romance and relationships are not always how they make it out to be in books. You’ve got your tall, dark, and handsome bad boy who meets the troubled young girl, they fall in love, and then happily ever after…you get the picture. However, no matter how mushy or cliche the plot may be, romance will always be one of my favorite book genres. Here are some of my recent Young Adult romance reads.

All the little lights– Jamie mcguire

All the Little Lights follows the story of Elliott Youngblood, just your neighborhood kid with a camera who meets Catherine Calhoun, the mysterious girl who lived in that one notorious house on the corner. Elliott and Catherine live very different lives but find friendship easily. Catherine could not trust Elliott right away, or anyone for that matter. However, when she was at a point where she needed Elliott the most, he was forced to leave town. Catherine, already troubled and broken, becomes lost without Elliott. Years later, Elliott returns to town during their high school years, but Catherine has not forgiven him for leaving. The story goes on to describe the friendship Elliott and Catherine must rekindle, while also digging up Catherine’s dark past and getting Elliott out of trouble in town.

This book took me quite some time to read since it started off a bit slow, but as I kept going, the plot twists were coming left and right! I definitely recommend! Jamie McGuire is also the author of a popular book called Beautiful Disaster.

The Upside of falling down– rebekah crane

The Upside of Falling Down is one of my favorite stories I have read recently! The story follows protagonist, Clementine Haas, who has just woken up in a hospital in Ireland after a tragic plane crash. She wakes up with no recollection of the accident and no general memory of anything. Everyone on that plane died, except her. She was the lucky one, but she didn’t feel like it. Clementine must now try to remember the life she once had, but it’s not as it easy as it seems. She decides to start a new life to get a fresh start. Clementine creates a new identity for herself and creates connections with new people in Ireland. She has to disguise herself from her peers, considering she’s the latest story in the press and her face is plastered on every corner. Kieran, a boy she meets at the hospital, becomes her closest companion and the one person who helps her escape her past. He makes her feel like she’s not lost anymore, as if she’s right where she’s supposed to be- with him. The lies and the hiding all catch up to her eventually and she must decide between staying for love or leaving to find the person she used to be.

People we meet on vacation– emily henry

People We Meet on Vacation is written by Emily Henry and is considered one of the top reads of 2021! I am almost finished with this story, but from what I’ve read so far, I definitely would recommend!

The story follows Alex and Poppy, a true “opposites attract” pairing. They are two different types of people, but that’s what makes them work. They live apart for most of the year, until summer comes around. Every summer for an entire decade, they take a one week spontaneous vacation. It was tradition, until they stopped talking to each other. A couple years go by and Poppy finds herself stuck. The last time she can remember being happy was on a summer trip with Alex. The story goes on during a vacation she somehow gets Alex to join, after years of awkward tension. In just one week, they must uncover all of their past issues and light up the spark they once had.

I’m definitely not one for a knight in shining armor, but I am a sucker for a good romance book. These are just a few that I’ve read as of recently, but there are so many I’ve read in the past that are definitely some of my top favorites! I will be writing a love letter to my Kindle Fire this Valentine’s Day <3
