My Top 5 Sustainable Swaps at Target

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Mizzou chapter.

Sustainable swaps can be hard to come by. So, I’ve looked around town, tried different products at Target and found some of my favorite sustainable swaps to share with you! These swaps are affordable, effective and most of them also feature my new favorite brand, HeyHumans.

1. Matter Compostable trash bags

I am obsessed with these trash bags. I feel more comfortable using these bags because they are 100% compostable and are made from plants instead of harmful materials and plastics. This brand makes a variety of products and I also just purchased their food storage bags. They sell other products, like tableware, as well.

Matter’s company mission is “to make ingenious products that solve everyday problems and facilitate ecological responsibility – without sacrificing strength or asking you to make huge changes,” according to the Matter website.

2. HeyHumans body wash

I love this body wash! It comes in a can and limits the spread of single-use plastics. This body wash comes in various scents that you can mix and match with their deodorant. The lid screws off easily and then you can put the body wash on any scrubby or washcloth. It works just as well as any other body wash, minus the plastic!

3. HeyHumans Deodorant

If you’re a fan of Native deodorant, then you need to try the HeyHumans’ version. This deodorant stick has paper packaging and the same components as a Native stick, for a fraction of the cost. I have been using their deodorant for over a year and I love it.

4. HeyHumans Toothpaste

The HeyHumans line doesn’t end! They also have toothpaste that comes in metal containers. This way, you don’t use large plastic tubes that take years to decompose. This dye-free toothpaste comes in multiple flavors and HeyHumans creates formulas with and without fluoride.

5. Full Circle Reusable Bags

These bags are wonderful. You can wash them between uses and they have different, cute designs on them. They have multiple sizes and cost about $6 for a pack of two. I love to use these to store snacks when I am on the go!

There are plenty of products you can find that are sustainable, fit your lifestyle and meet your budget. These are just my top five favorite products that you can find at Target. I highly recommend going online or in-store and checking out all HeyHumans products that Target has to offer!
