College can be a lot to handle at times, so it’s a good idea to make sure you have everything you need. Being more prepared will help ease your mind on those particularly difficult days. First, make sure you have a backpack that can fit everything but not be chunky. Here is a link to the backpack that I use: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07ZHDQ2YW?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2_dt_b_product_details. I feel like this backpack is a perfect fit for all my belongings while also being really cute! If your major requires a lot of equipment this may not be the right backpack for you, but as a Pre-Med major it works for me. These are 5 basic essentials that I have in my backpack:

  • Laptop and Chargers

This is kind of a given. I always have my laptop on me since I mostly use it for classes, and I take notes on it. This is probably the most important thing in my backpack. I also have my charger for my laptop and phone because you never know when your devices may die on you. It’s always good to have chargers on you just in case.

  • Notebook and Pencils

Although I primarily use my laptop for notes in class, I usually carry a notebook and pencils with me too. Technology can be unpredictable, so it’s a good idea to have a backup solution with you.

  • Water and Snacks

On a busy day of classes, you should always have some water and snacks. You may get hungry during class and don’t have time to buy something from the dining hall, so always have a snack with you. Make sure the snack is something you can easily eat in class or in between classes. I usually have fruit strips, a bag of chips, or a protein bar. Water is also a very important essential item because it’s good to be hydrated during classes!

  • Earbuds

I carry earbuds with me just in case you need them in class. Also, if you have downtime between classes or like to listen to music while studying, earbuds are a great thing to have with you.

  • Feminine Products

Periods can be pretty spontaneous sometimes, so I always have a pad handy. I prefer pads as my choice feminine product, but feel free to carry whatever you’re comfortable with. It’s just a great relief when you have products with you when you really need them.

  • Hand sanitizer

Especially during our current Covid times, you should carry hand sanitizer or hand wipes. It’s good to have with you to make sure your hands are clean before you eat or if you just have the urge to clean your hands.

  • Emergency Items

There are a lot of things that can go under emergency items. I think it comes down to what you want or need to carry. Personally, I carry my wallet, a first aid kit, medication, an extra mask, lotion, and a hairbrush. Hopefully, these items will prepare you for most emergencies.
