Thanks for the linear narrative, as much as I had enjoyed the first season, it took me quite some time to realise we had 3 different timelines. You can imagine someone who has never read or played the Witcher being very confused, until episode 4, where most of us newbies probably had the same reaction: “ah, the law of surprise. Wait, ok we’ve got different timelines, but what is the law of surprise again?’’.
I have still got so many questions this season, which I do not think I should list, as they might be spoilers for those who haven’t watched the series yet. But I can say that this season was special and a total opposite of the first series; it is more emotional; the stories are deeper and some of them are heart-breaking. On top of that Freya Allan (Cirilla) gives the best performance, which is a pleasure to watch.
Season 2 is such a thoughtful Christmas gift from Netflix. They did ‘toss more coin’ for the production this time, although there is no exact number, I was able to find. But they did improve the look of Geralt’s armour, which Henry Cavill designed himself, working closely with the costume designer Lucinda Wright. Cavill points out that the new armour “has made it a lot easier for me to move and fight”.
Along with the upgraded armour, there was some really deep character development that showed the main characters in a new light. More human, with visible emotions and fears. They were no longer running and fighting now, although just for a while, they got to explore themselves and take a step back.
Yennefer, with her journey of going through the pain of losing the most important thing in her life, is conflicted, which leads her to choose the wrong path and hurt the ones she cares about.
Geralt and Ciri have finally found each other and are slowly establishing a father-daughter-like relationship, both hesitant at first, but when you watch episode 7 when Geralt says the one word “mine”, you know he wants to protect Ciri and step up to be the father figure that she sees in him.
It is an emotional rollercoaster, my dear friends. But Jaskier is there to give us some laughs, though he is also going through a rough time. The breakup with his bestie Geralt, allows Jaskier to discover his inner Taylor Swift. His performance of his new hit ‘Burn’ will make Geralt feel like he was Jake Gyllenhaal. Hopefully, in season 3 Jaskier gets to perform ‘Burn’ in front of him; I just want to see his reaction to the song. He will try to hide his emotions, but we know he is ashamed of how he left things with Jaskier.
Season 2 was a treat. From the first episode, it was a strong start and I could not stop watching. Which was a mistake, as I soon realised all my friends do actually have lives and things to do, so I had to keep my mouth shut.
I guess I can say it here without giving out any spoilers: Can you believe that? What a shocking ending.
