Tinder, it’s time to break up once and for all.

Dear Tinder,

I wish I could tell you it’s me and not you, but let’s be honest…it’s you. You’ve provided me with fun and entertainment, but this has gone on long enough, don’t you think? You provided the array of profiles and a variety of people, but it’s the same old same old, nothing new, and ultimately I can’t keep up with this relationship anymore.

TInder, you truly are just here for the ego boost and you don’t seem to care otherwise. Do you want me to thank you for yet another bad date? Another conversation that I have to keep going? Another one goes wrong and next thing I know I’m running back into your arms and swiping… again.

We’ve been down this road before and we’ve done this dance a million times, but this time I’m serious Tinder, we need to go separate ways. I never realized Tinder, that I didn’t want my love story to start with a dating app. How do I explain that to my family? “Oh yes, Tommy and I met on Tinder where we matched and they gave me the best pick up line ever, I knew Tommy was the one just in one swipe!” Do you realize how that sounds, Tinder?

Tinder, I wish it didn’t come to this, but I need to do this for me. My mental health needs to be placed first and ultimately you enable the swiping. So I need to do this for me Tinder. I wish I could tell you this breaks my heart, but it doesn’t and it is going to be okay, I promise. What truly comes out of you is just meaningless relationships and clearing out my Snapchat friends every couple of months.

Don’t you see Tinder? We’re in different places in life and right now I need to focus on myself. You see, you can provide me with ego boosts when I feel horrible about myself, but searching for validation through you is taxing and irresponsible. Knowing what I need right now is not a relationship and realizing that is why we must go separate ways. I need to know who I am and what I want out of life before I go searching for something I regret and so Tinder, it’s time that we split up once and for all.

You’ve provided me with laughter and entertainment Tinder, but it is not enough to have me stay this time. I appreciate the time that we spent together, but this is for the best. I need to take care of myself and you can still make other people happy. Just because we didn’t work out, doesn’t mean that you won’t find the right person later. I’m glad we’re having this conversation, Tinder because it means I am finally communicating what I need at the moment.

I thank you for your time and entertainment, but this is my final goodbye.  Thank you, Tinder. It’s been a great ride.

Sincerely,

A Hopeless Romantic
