For most of my life, when asked what my favorite season is, my immediate answer is always Fall. Maybe I’m biased since I’m from New England, practically the foliage capital of the world, but there’s just something about the crisp weather, gorgeous colors, haunting vibes, and good food that can’t be beaten.
Although the spookiest part of the season is over with the arrival of November, this month brings a lot of fun aspects of this season with it too. You have football on Sundays, Daylight Saving Time so we can sleep an extra hour and the incredible excess of comfort food on Thanksgiving.
As a huge music fan, I also find certain songs give off Fall vibes as well. Some of these darker-toned, slower pieces are staples of my Spotify every year during this time, and now I’m going to share some of those with you here.
Grace – Lewis Capaldi
I don’t even know if this makes sense, but Lewis Capaldi’s voice was made for Fall time. He has such a deep, raspy tone that somehow encompasses the richness of the season. The melodic piano mixed with the strong beat is such a beautiful balance, and of course, his incredible runs and hard-hitting notes truly make the song what it is. I have such vivid memories of discovering this song a couple of years ago around this same time, and every time I listen to it now it transports me to the autumnal scene.
Glass House – Machine Gun Kelly
I feel like when people think of Machine Gun Kelly, they think of a more summer/music festival / rap scene rather than the Fall, however this song proves the opposite for me. He’s dabbled in many genres over the years, but he is staying true to his roots and rapping in this song. His rhythmic flow and emotional lyrics balance beautifully with the soulful voice of Naomi Wild who is featured on the track.
Lover of Mine – 5 Seconds of Summer
This song is definitely one of my top 5 5SOS songs of all time. There is just something about the haunting piano intro, crisp acoustic guitar, Luke’s strong vocals that echo just the right amount, and the emotional lyrics that come together to create such an amazing track. The addition of the drums and other sound effects in the second verse also help to give it that depth that I crave from this band.
Lullaby – Nickelback
Maybe it’s because the album cover this exact scene, but no matter where I am in the world, this song specifically makes me feel like I’m walking around in a rainy city at nighttime. The instrumental at the beginning is so compelling, and the lyrics are as well. I recommend this song for Fall, but with lyrics like “Just give it one more try / With a lullaby / And turn this up on the radio / If you can hear me now / I’m reachin’ out to let you know / That you’re not alone” also to anyone going through a difficult time.
Atlantis – Seafret
This acoustic song is the perfect chill escape. The unique vocals of Jack Sedman almost put me in a trance when I listen to it. The chorus is extremely catchy, and you can feel the emotion coming through Jack’s voice. It’s a perfect song for a sleepy Fall morning, or an evening wind down.
Chicago – McKenna Breinholt
I discovered this song last Fall, and it immediately became a staple in my playlist. This song tells a sad but beautiful story, and McKenna’s deep voice takes it to a whole new level. It gives my playlist a different feel, since I don’t have many other songs in there with the same vibe like this one.
Literally any song from the Harry Potter Soundtracks
Is it just me, or are Fall and Harry Potter just synonymous with each other? The minute this time of year rolls around I always find myself curled up on my couch, diving into this magical world I’ve loved since I was a kid. Now I know there’s a ton of Harry Potter music out there, so I’ll give some actual suggestions that are included in my playlist. The first is “A Window to the Past” from the Prisoner of Azkaban soundtrack. It’s such a unique tune, and the flute music is beautiful. Other suggestions are, “Malfoy’s Mission” from the Halfblood Prince, and “Double Trouble” also from the Prisoner of Azkaban.
