National Clean Energy Action Month: Things You Can Do to Make a Difference

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Millersville chapter.

On the 30th of September, 2021, President Biden declared the month of October to be National Clean Energy Action Month. National Clean Energy Month was established to encourage citizens to be mindful of the ever-changing climate and to incorporate changes into their lives in order to conserve energy usage.

“The path forward is clear:  we must move quickly and decisively to power America with clean energy.”

President Joseph R. Biden

While people in places such as the White House are focusing on larger-scale energy conservation, there are plenty of things that us at home can do in order to do our part in making the world a healthier place.

  • Turn off lights when leaving rooms and utilize natural light during the day.
  • Lessen your water usage, along with conserving your hot water.
  • Utilize the use of LED light bulbs around your house.
  • Unplug electronics that are not being used, such as kitchen appliances and chargers.
  • Run full loads of laundry to reduce the amount of water and energy (let alone other laundry products) used when running a cleaning/drying cycle.
  • Wash laundry in cold water.

I hope that these tips have inspired you to switch things up a bit and strive towards energy conservation for the betterment of the planet!
