Halloween Themed Activities for You and Your S/O to get in the Spooky Spirit

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UC Riverside chapter.

Pumpkin spice is in the air, leaves are finally turning a rustic orange with a slight crunch when you step on them, and the weather’s getting colder. Fall has arrived and that means so has the Spooky Season! Halloween is my favorite holiday of the year so here are some fun and bonding Halloween themed activities for you and your significant other:

Go to a Pumpkin Patch

One of my absolute favorite things to do once the fall season comes around is taking a cute little trip to the pumpkin patch. If you reside in the IE area like I do, I highly recommend going to the Live Oak Canyon Pumpkin Patch as it is my favorite to visit, especially at nighttime where the scenery looks its best. It’s got lots of cute areas to take pictures and you can stroll around with your partner. You can’t go wrong with this sweet date idea!

Carve a Pumpkin

Grab your pumpkin carving kits and put on the perfect Halloween music playlist. Pumpkin carving is such a fun little activity to do with your S/O and it’s a great way to spend intimate time with one another. Try out creative faces on your pumpkins, have a competition with your partner on who does it best, OR you can try to carve a small heartfelt message in the pumpkin to surprise them.

Bake Together

One thing I cannot miss during Spooktober is baking Halloween themed cookies. I personally love baking in general so this is a very enjoyable activity for me. Of course, I always get the Pillsbury Pumpkin and Ghost shaped sugar cookies because they’re so adorable! I literally baked them during the first week of October with my boyfriend and they came out super good! You definitely don’t have to get these specific ones and you can make/decorate your own cookies or baked goods. They even have cookie decorating kits that look simple and fun to make!

Make Spooky Baskets For One Another

I have been seeing spooky baskets all over my TL and social media and I think that they’re the cutest things ever. You can either do two things for this activity: 1. Grab all the things necessary for the baskets (basket, candy, personalized items, etc) and build them for each other together as a date or 2. Surprise your S/O with one as an adorable, spooky gift. This is a fun opportunity for you to get as creative as you want with these!

Have a Movie Marathon

Last but not least, one of the simplest, yet comforting activities to do with your significant other is to have a Halloween movie marathon with them. It’s the perfect way to cuddle up for the cold weather with lots of blankets and any snacks you decide to get. I’d pair this with a good ol’ cup of hot chocolate, preferably Abuelitas, and recently I’ve been trying to learn how to make champurrado for the chilly days to come. The movies I love to watch during this time of year are Beetlejuice, The Nightmare Before Christmas, and binging all the Harry Potter movies. I might even use this as an excuse into making my boyfriend sit and watch all the Twilight saga with me.

So maybe I have been planning these date ideas since September, but it’s only because I love this holiday and season the most! Halloween is basically every day of October for me and this time of year just brings lots of excitement and happiness for me. It’s even better now that I get to enjoy it 10x more with the person I love. I hope that you and your S/O are able to enjoy partaking in some of these activities and have the best spooky season together.
