Hazing prevention is a daily participation effort within Greek organizations. However, National Hazing Prevention Week brings more attention to the serious issue of hazing. At Bryant University, the Panhellenic community held a variety of events during the week of September 20-24, 2021:
September 20th & September 21st
These Hands Don’t Haze: In the Roto, located in the middle of the Unistructure at Bryant University, there was an anti-hazing pledge to sign as well as a “These Hands Don’t Haze” tapestry. By painting your hand and including it on the tapestry, you show that YOUR hands don’t haze. This tapestry is now hanging on the third floor of the Fisher Student Center.
September 22nd
Hazing Prevention Speaker Event: In Heritage, located on the first floor of Fisher, Kelly Boutin spoke about the definitions of hazing and how we can prevent it on Bryant’s campus. Kelly Boutin is the Director of the Hochberg Women’s Center & Pride Center.
September 23rd & September 24th
Fundraising for the Harrison Kowiak Scholarship: In the Roto, there was a fundraiser to raise money for this program that helps bring educational programs to schools across the United States. The fundraiser is in memory of Harrison Kowiak, who tragically died as a result of hazing in college. Everyone who made a donation was entered into a raffle.
