This past summer has seen the rise of the tote bag. Being the most versatile bag to carry from the beach to the city, it’s no surprise that many were inseparable from their totes. Unfortunately, the warm weather of the previous season is now behind us, and with its departure comes the appearance of fall fashion trends But don’t consider your summer staples as “out-of-trend,” “impractical for the weather,” or the dreaded term “cheugy” just yet.

Before I begin, let me make it clear that your style is always on trend, and that the concept of current styles is a societal construct. The great thing about tote bags is that they can be used to express your personality and values, while being a practical fashion statement. If you see articles floating around saying that tote bags are “out”  and another style is “in” , keep in mind that you are the sole decider of how you want to express yourself, and no one can tell you what to wear!

One downside to tote bags is they don’t protect your items from rainy weather. Thankfully, there’s a way to fix that. Most waterproofing sprays used on shoes work on all textiles linen included. I picked up Walter’s Protect Waterproofing Spray for Shoes and it works like a charm!

As a university student who’s always carrying around devices, textbooks and lunch boxes to campus, it’s easy to run out of room in my tote bag, and it’s always a game of jenga each morning to try to fit everything in! That’s why I believe a locker on campus is a great investment. For $30 a year you get a place to keep snacks, spare personal items, and rain gear in one place freeing up significant space in your bag.

With these tips, your bag will have a seamless transition into the new season. Now go out there and enjoy the autumn season with your tote bag in hand!
