It’s officially October: leaves are changing and Halloween is right around the corner. I myself am a self-proclaimed Halloween fanatic, so I knew this week’s article had to touch on my favorite holiday. Crystals happen to be another favorite of mine, so I’m combining the two! This list is my curated selection of stones for this mystical and spooky time of year. As always, crystals do not work unless you yourself also put in the work, so keep that in mind. Crystals are a great wonder and work even better with other healthy forms of self-care.

1. Opal

Kicking off this list is October’s most famous birthstone: opal. Opals come in a variety of colors, each one encompassing its own unique metaphysical properties. Contrary to popular stories, opals are not bad luck and actually can bring its holder good luck. In general, the opal is known for its ancient history of being bewitching and mysterious, making it the perfect stone for the spooky season.

2. Black Tourmaline

Coming in at number two is October’s second birthstone: tourmaline. Like opals, tourmaline comes in a few different varieties. In the light or darkness, of the Halloween season, I chose black tourmaline. Black tourmaline protects and blocks negative energy, something we all need. This stone helps you find inner balance and allows energy blockages to be released. This is perfect for a new school year when we are surrounded by completely new energies.

3. Black Obsidian

Technically volcanic glass, black obsidian is a powerful psychic protecting stone. Associated with mystery and the energy around it, black obsidian helps to enhance our connection to the spiritual realm and clears mental smog. This is also a great stone for helping to better understand yourself and others, making it especially great if you have a roommate.

4. Amethyst

With a pretty purple hue, amethyst is already a visual stress reliever. Aside from relieving stress, amethyst raises our spiritual awareness and enhances our psychic abilities. This allows us to increase our inner wisdom. It also guards against spiritual attacks and helps us remember and understand our dreams.

5. Fluorite

Last, but certainly not least, is fluorite. Fluorite is an incredible stone, especially for students as it increases focus and concentration and aids in memory retention. With midterms approaching for many, I recommend keeping this stone with you when studying to increase your academic talents. Fluorite also clears electromagnetic fog created by things like cellphones, laptops, and TV. This helps increase overall mental clarity and relieves stress.
