I’m sure by now some of you have caught up to this new skincare trend. While double cleansing has been around for a while, it gained popularity over the last year on social media. If you don’t know what this trend is, let’s get a run down.

What is it? what’s the purpose?

Double cleansing means washing your face with two different types of cleansers. First is an oil-based cleanser or an oil balm, mixing it with water to turn it into a milky lather. After that, going in with a standard water-based cleanser you would normally use. The purpose of doing a double cleanse, is that it removes all dirt and make up by melting it down, reaching all those hard to get places.

Benefits of an oil-based cleanser

One of the benefits of using this method is that its more gentle, which means less irritation on your skin. Generally you’ll see irritation when you use something like make up wipes first. This method also fully removes make up or dirt built up throughout your day, and takes less time than going through five or six make up wipes to feel clean. You’ll notice your skin will look more glowy and fresh after making the switch to an oil-based cleanser instead of a makeup wipe or other method before you go in with your normal cleanser.

what to use

As of right now, I have personally used two different oil cleansers since I first started. The first one is the “Clean it Zero Original” Cleansing Balm ($27) (the mini version that goes for $7). Both can be found at Ulta!

This next one is a bit pricier, but definitely worth it. The “Papaya Sorbet Enzyme” cleansing balm ($32) which can be found at Sephora online and in stores, is another great option!
