Catamount Pride with X10 & JRod

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UVM chapter.

Have you ever caught a glimpse of “The Real Groovy UV” on YouTube?

Well if you’re ever looking for a few chuckles, I highly suggest taking a few minutes to watch it (maybe even multiple times like myself and friends). Luckily, I was able to meet up with the guys behind the video and share a few laughs at what they had to say.

The UVM juniors, Patrick Leene, Luke Martin, and Joe Rodolfy, struck me as a few genuinely good guys with an enjoyable sense of humor, obviously shown throughout their rap songs. When asked to describe themselves as Ben & Jerry flavors, I was given answers ranging from Chubby Hubby (because there’s a lot to the Chubby Hubby that just works together) to Phish Food (since one of them owned a fish tank).

Long time friends, Patrick and Luke, formed their group X10 their junior year of high school and later joined up with Joe (aka JRod) to create rhymes just for a little fun. Writing “The Real Groovy” only took a stroke of genius and a single afternoon to get down and about a week to produce.

With a music video already produced by Kevin Hartmann, friend and student at Columbia College, the boys entered their video into the UVM student video contest, Shaken & Stirred, in Spring 2009. In the end, the boys took home the grand prize of $500 in UVM Cat Scratch, receiving recognition from students that viewed the video, a few high school friends, and apparently even Joe’s grandparents. (Haha!)

Patrick, Luke, and Joe laugh about making another video in the near future. Until then, these charismatic Catamounts continue to push on with 802 pride!
