Skidmore Slang: A Translation

Ever feel like you need a Skidmore-specific pocket dictionary on campus? We’ve compiled a list of all the campus “slang” that makes Skidmore, Skidmore. Here’s all the lingo you need to know to enjoy a lively convo with a Skidmore student!
(Note: All slang has been collected from seniors and is subject to frequent changes from year to year.)  

Luggage– A stage-four clinger
Hamboned– Getting really drunk
The D-hall– the Skidmore dining hall
Red side– Emily’s Garden side of the D-hall; usually occupied by the hipsters and artsy students
Blue side– near Global and the pasta station; usually occupied by the athletes an their groupies
Chicken (free) finger Friday– dhall weekly delight that also comes in a vegetarian option that is the perfect greasy lunch choice after a Thursday night out
Biddies– young girls
Just lampin’– hanging out on the couch and watching tv or playing video games
Fresh meat– Freshmen
Get loose– getting drunk and loosening up  
DT– downtown
The ‘bodys or peab’s– Peabody’s
Getting bodied– getting drunk at Peabody’s
Venue– AKA Club Shadow
Raging– extreme partying frequently done every weekend Thursday-Saturday 
Wilin‘- overreacting or freaking out for no reason- “quit wilin!” or “he’s wilin out”
“I’m tryin’ to”– I want to
Sick, Off the hook, dope, ill– awesome, great, cool (may all be used interchangeably)

Adriana is a junior at Skidmore College, with an English major and Studio Art and French double minor. Born and raised in the Main Line suburbs of Philadelphia, Adriana loves to travel, write, and paint. She has spent summers in France and Italy studying fashion, painting, and art history, and recently finished her semester abroad in Paris. At Skidmore, Adriana enjoys participating in musicals, club soccer and field hockey, and writing for the school newspaper. With advertising and graphic design internships under her belt, Adriana is excited to continue her experience in journalism at Her Campus, and eventually get a law degree.
