Tyler Tomasik ’13

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Chapel Hill chapter.

Name: Tyler Nichalas Tomasik
Home Town: Raleigh
Current Town: Clayton
Year: Sophomore
Major: Management and Society; Religion

Favorite Coldstone flavor: Either “Berry, Berry, Berry Good” or “Cheesecake Fantasy”

Where do you study? I like to mix it up…sometimes UL, bottom of the Union/Computer Lab or Davis. A lot of times it depends on what I’m studying and how long I plan on studying.

Fun Fact: I’m a second degree black belt.

Motto: “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6

Place you’d like to visit someday: I’ve always wanted to go to New Zealand (mostly because of how awesome the Lord of the Rings trilogy is!). I also think it would be cool to travel around Europe, maybe backpacking one day, and to go over to the northern region of Africa.

Hobbies: I love playing basketball, playing guitar, singing, reading my Bible, driving, fishing and just hanging out with friends. Oh, and, of course, laughing and always having fun!

When I met Tyler, he was singing and playing the guitar in the laundry room at 3 a.m. on a Friday night while waiting for his laundry to finish. He’s the kind of person that makes you feel comfortable after just a few minutes, as if you’ve really known him for a long time. That’s probably because he loves meeting new people and just being around others in general.

Ask him what his interests are, and his first response is God. He’s part of Campus Outreach, a campus ministry, and has devoted his life to following Christ. This summer, he’ll be attending the Summer Orlando Project with Campus Outreach and will be working for two months at Sea World.

He’s a fan of the mountains, the lake, the beach, “all types of music…literally” and the Lion King—or cartoons in general. While he isn’t sure yet exactly what he wants to do after graduation, he’d like to either become a Campus Outreach staff member or work in a nonprofit organization.

“Life’s too short to be worried all the time,” Tyler says. “Just have fun and see the goodness in all things, the light in the darkness, and, of course, just be yourself…and be weird!”
