New York’s Next Big Thing

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Fordham chapter.

March has arrived. When it comes to school, this only means one thing—work, work, work. Midterms are upon us and weekly papers are due. However, there is light at the end of the tunnel! On Sunday, March 27th, head down to Le Poisson Rouge on Bleeker Street for a night of dorky humor, crazy-high belting, and a splendid combination of musical theater and pop. Kait Kerrigan and Brian Lowdermilk can offer all of these things, and so much more. Kerrigan-Lowdermilk are a very distinguished contemporary musical theater duo. With influences like Imogen Heap, Eminem, and Ben Folds, their repertoire includes a range of music that everyone can enjoy. Not only is their target audience college students, but the themes in their music are the epitome of college life—love, laughter, sex, partying, friendship, and simple inspiration. Their past shows have featured the best of Broadway performers, including starts of the hit musicals Wicked, American Idiot, Spring Awakening, Next to Normal, and even Anthony Rapp of Rent (both on stage and screen!).

The upcoming show at LPR is the last of many for a while, wrapping up their first ever series of concerts in New York entitled “You Made This Tour”. This particular tour was born when Kerrigan-Lowdermilk started a campaign to raise money for their first album, Our First Mistake (now available on iTunes featuring performances by Broadway and indie-pop stars). The response was extraordinary, and after they raised $30,000 they felt the need to give back, hitting up a large number of New York venues and promising to record their excursions in order to release a second live album in the near future. You won’t want to miss the final concert of this tour. For more information and to order tickets, follow the team on Twitter (@kaitandbrian), Facebook (Kerrigan-Lowdermilk), or visit their website at www.Kerrigan-Lowdermilk.com. You won’t regret it!
