My Life is GrUV: Fridge and the Spin$ Review

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at UVM chapter.

Janglin synth pop. Good for parties. Come dance.”

The spirit of music is alive and well in Burlington.

Sweet reggae beats float into the ears of weary students from open windows en route to class, all your favorite bands are headlining 5 minutes away, and you can always count on finding the next funk protégés at that grimy basement party.

So the story goes for UVM’s very own Fridge and the Spins, who recently preformed at Slade, playing the socks off all the dancin’ fools in the joint. The harmonized sound and energy was contagious; I couldn’t help but throw my head back in pleasure and feel the Spinsters’ bass pop and keyboard jangle. It was as if the crowd had all caught a case of ants in the pants, and couldn’t keep their toes from tapping. The set list? I’m not too sure of. But what I do know is that the crowd wanted more, and more, and just a little more.

After the show, I briefly spoke with vocals and bassist, Sam Bevett. Sam enthusiastically expressed Fridge and the Spins’ musical style as “Janglin synth pop. Good for parties. Come dance.” He certainly hit the nail on the head. Bulls-eye on the target. Spot on. Ladies and gentlemen of UVM, if you love to take off your shoes and dance the blues away, I highly suggest checking out Fridge and the Spins. Keep your eyes peeled for flyers around campus about the event they’re playing at, and ears acute for that house party where they’ll be jamming. Finally, to the boys of Fridge and the Spins – keep gracing Groovy with your janglin synth pop.
