My Campus Celebrity: Rosie JermakianMy Campus Celebrity: Rosie Jer
All the day long, rain or shine, she’s part of the assembly line. She’s making
history, working for victory, Rosie the Riveter Jermakian
Rosie Jemakian and Rosie the Riveter definitely have more in common than just their first names. Both Rosies exceed expectations and go beyond the means of involvement. Miss Jermakian leads a exciting life by participating in a broad
spectrum of activities. Last year she co-founded the VT Ice Hockey Media Crew and is currently serving as VTTV News Director.
Additionally, she spends a great amount of time with the boys of Theta Delta Chi Fraternity, all the while working on her bachelor’s degree and two cognates. Undeniably, Rosie has rolled her sleeves up and taken on a vast array of riveting roles.
Her Campus Virginia Tech: What extracurricular activities are you involved in?
Rosie Jermakian: I love being involved with the media around campus. Right now
I’m the News Department Director for VTTV and manage the VT Ice Hockey Media
Crew. I’m also a Theta Delta Chi Fraternity (TDX) sweetheart.
HCVT: What responsibilities come with your position(s)?
RJ: Being the Director, I produce shows and manage all the reporters, filming, editors, and anchors, which make up the News Department. Oh… and a lot of emails! As for the Ice Hockey Media Crew, I helped start the organization last fall and we’ve grown significantly this semester. We’ll be driving out to every home game at the Roanoke Civic Center and filming all the action so you can cheer on the Hokies at home! I wouldn’t really call it a responsibility, but I love to spend my time with TDX. They are some of the best guys I know so if you’re thinking of joining a fraternity, rush Theta Delta Chi!
HCVT: What are some of your goal/ambitions for this Fall Semester?
RJ: My vision is to produce two shows every week within the VTTV News Department: The Weekly “WTF” and Tech Tonight. The Weekly “WTF” is news how only about weird/odd/bizarre stories and Tech Tonight is your typical news broadcast geared towards a college audience. Hopefully this year everyone on campus will know that they can watch all the VT Hockey games online if they can’t make the road trip to Roanoke. Hokie House is possibly going to air all of our footage in their big screens as well so be sure to make it out!
HCVT: What are you studying here at VT?
RJ: Communication (Electronic Print Journalism) and Cinema/film cognate; Marketing/management cognate.
HCVT: Plans for Post-Graduation?
RJ: I would love to end up producing a broadcast or own a film production company!
HCVT: If you ever find free time, how do you spend it?
RJ: With family and friends relaxing and spending quality time together. I love spending as much time as I can doing anything outside like hiking or biking. Working out is the best to burn off a little steam, especially yoga. Besides that I’m always listening to music, cooking, or reading.
HCVT: What is your favorite thing about being a Hokie?
RJ: Honestly the people. Everyone at VT has such amazing school spirit. Coming back to Blacksburg feels like home because the atmosphere is so welcoming. I’m very proud to be a Hokie.
