A Cup of Tia: Trials and Tribulations of a Collegiette

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Quinnipiac chapter.

My school year started on August 15th when I moved in here early to avoid the hour drive to work at our school bookstore. Let’s me just say that this was a bust.  They had you work your butt off until they let you go saying you were only “summer help.” But that didn’t stop them from leading you by saying you’d have the job for the rest of the semester. I mean who wouldn’t? You wouldn’t work as hard. I worked 37 hours the first week of classes so I apologize if I were cranky that first week. Freshman parents think you’re the one pricing the books.

The first week of college zoomed by but whoever said syllabus week was a breeze, must have gone somewhere else. I was given hours of homework (I doubt I was alone in this) and a test for the following Tuesday. It was absolute insanity. Thankfully I planned to only have Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday classes this fall. Four-day weekends are the absolute best!

Now it’s week three and some of us are already feeling overwhelmed. No dancing around while getting dressed and bouncing around from room to room this week. I’ve already had 3 tests! Who could believe junior year of college would be such a pain in the a@#?! There are internships, sororities, homework, class, fire alarms (thank you York Hill) and everything in between. The feeling of being overwhelmed at college can hit at anytime. I know it’s already happening to some of us. So here are a few suggestions to get your life back again:

1. Vent– Complaining is not something your friends want to hear everyday so take a friend and have a vent session with her and when it’s over it’s over.

2.Get some exercise– Overwhelmed with work can make us overlook some other things such as working out. Make some time to run or just get out and climb the mountain. It will give you some time to clear your head and relieve a little stress. Yoga is great for this.

3. Have a day for yourself.I love to just take a day and run away every once in a while. Go get your hair done, nails, go shopping. It’s nice to just be able to go out and not rely on someone for once and come back refreshed and surprise everyone with your new look.

4. Put aside some time in your day to just get organized. This always helps with the feeling of being overwhelmed. If there’s too much clutter, get rid of it.

5. Relax.You don’t have to be studying or doing something every second of the day. Watch your favorite tv show.

6. Put aside your phone and FB while you’re doing homework. You’ll get everything done so much faster and once you’re done you can catch up with everyone.

7. Make dinner with friends. It’s cheap and it will be a good way to avoid cafeteria food.

Happy De-stressing! <3T
