It’s Time to De-stress!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at USFSP chapter.

Lately my life has been seriously stressful. Between work, school, student organizations, financial worries etc., I barely find much time for my boyfriend, much less myself.  I somehow forgot to take care of myself. I’ve been eating junk food, not exercising and staying up late with insane anxiety. As I remind myself that I need to calm down and take care of body to help get rid of some stress, I think many of you are probably feeling the same way I am.

While there’s no way to avoid stress completely, here are a few ways to help you de-stress:
Exercise:  It can help clear your mind and give you more energy to tackle that to-do list. I prefer running: while taking my mind off other things I usually worry about, it puts things in perspective for me.
Socialize: Having a good friend to catch up with once in a while can improve your mood dramatically.
Turn up the Music: Listening to something upbeat and fun!
Sleep:  I’m guilty of staying up until 2 a.m., restlessly trying to finish school work and projects and then thinking I’ll be able to wake up at 6:30 to start my day, only to find I’m more stressed because I can’t focus. Try to get a decent amount of sleep, or at least find time to take a nap if you’re having trouble staying awake in class.
Spend Time in Nature:  Most of us spend so much time cooped up in buildings that we rarely get to see the sunlight! Even if you can find just 15 minutes to lie in the grass and relax, some sun and fresh air will definitely reduce some stress.
Meditate:  Close your eyes. Take a deep breath. Clear your mind.
Eat Right:  When eating healthy, your body will cope with stress way better. Try to minimize the junk food, and drink a lot of water. If you are not properly hydrated, you will feel fatigued.
Drink Tea:  In the evening, instead of coffee, make a cup of herbal tea. You will be able to sleep easier if you cut back on caffeine later in the day and let your body relax. My favorite tea is Tazo Passion Tea. It’s fruity, exotic and will change your mind if you think tea is boring.

Did I miss anything? How do you tackle stress?
